Accessibility statement

Effective date: April 2026.

South Shore Home Guide is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to local home-services information, and we are continually working to improve the accessibility of our site to provide an equal experience for all users.

Our commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility. These guidelines were developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Technical standards and features

Our site is built using semantic HTML5 elements that convey meaning and structure to assistive technologies. We use ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) labels and roles where appropriate to describe interactive elements. All images include descriptive alt text. Our color scheme has been designed with sufficient contrast ratios to support users with low vision or color blindness. Interactive elements such as links, buttons, and form inputs are keyboard-accessible, allowing users who cannot use a mouse to navigate the site fully. We use a consistent heading hierarchy throughout the site to support screen-reader navigation. Form inputs include associated labels to ensure compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Compatibility

We have designed and tested our site for compatibility with the following assistive technologies and browsers: NVDA screen reader with Firefox on Windows; JAWS screen reader with Chrome on Windows; VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS; TalkBack with Chrome on Android. We also support keyboard-only navigation in all major browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We make every effort to ensure that our site works well with other screen readers and assistive technologies as well.

Known limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, we acknowledge a few areas where our site may present challenges. Our contractor directory tables rely on sortable columns and visual grouping that can be harder to navigate by screen reader; we are improving these through better ARIA labels, table summaries, and responsive collapse behavior. Embedded third-party content (such as external review-source citations) may also have accessibility gaps outside our control. We are committed to addressing these limitations on an ongoing basis.

Feedback and assistance

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of South Shore Home Guide. If you experience any barriers to accessing our site, or if you have suggestions for how we can improve accessibility, please contact us at our corrections form. When you contact us, please describe the accessibility barrier you encountered and provide your contact information so we can follow up with you. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days. If you need information from our site in an alternative format, please contact us and we will do our best to provide it.

Third-party content

Some content on our site is provided by or links to third-party websites, including contractor websites, public review sources (Google Business Profile, Yelp, BBB), and Massachusetts state licensing databases. We do not control the accessibility of third-party content and cannot guarantee it meets WCAG standards. We encourage the contractors listed on our site to ensure their own websites are accessible.

Formal complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility concern, you may contact the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, which is responsible for enforcing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). You may also contact the Massachusetts Office on Disability or your local disability-rights organization.

Ongoing improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. We conduct periodic accessibility reviews of our site and incorporate feedback from users with disabilities into our development roadmap. We are dedicated to continuously improving the accessibility of our site and welcome your input in helping us achieve this goal.
