South Shore Home Guide is a local directory and advice library for home services across South Shore of Boston & Plymouth County, Massachusetts. This page explains, in plain language, how the directory works and how we make money.

How listings are sorted

Directory listings default to alphabetical order. On some pages, listings may be sorted by aggregate public review score. When a sort method other than alphabetical is used, the method is stated directly on the page.

We do not rank contractors editorially. We do not publish a “best of” ordered list based on our own opinions. Every listing reflects publicly verifiable data.

Featured Partners (paid placements)

Some contractors pay a fee to appear in a clearly labeled Featured Partner or Sponsored section on a directory page. Featured Partner placements:

• Appear in a visually distinct section labeled “Featured Partners” or “Sponsored,” separated from the organic directory.
• Are never mixed into the organic directory sort order. A Featured Partner placement does not move a contractor up or down in the main directory.
• Carry a visible “Featured Partner” or “Sponsored” badge adjacent to the listing name.

A page-level disclosure banner appears on every directory page that contains a Featured Partner section. This site also follows FTC Endorsement Guides for disclosure.

Where our data comes from

Directory listings aggregate publicly available information from sources including:

• Google Business Profile ratings and review counts
• Public Yelp directory listings
• Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure (elicensing.mass.gov) contractor license lookup
• Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration database
• Better Business Bureau accreditation status
• Publicly listed years in business from business profiles

Review scores and counts are cited with the month and year they were captured. We do not assert ongoing accuracy of third-party ratings between data reviews.

What we do not claim

We do not claim that any contractor listed is the best, worst, or recommended against. We do not publish editorial opinions about the quality of a named contractor. Where review data is cited, it is presented as a direct reflection of publicly available ratings.

Advice and cost content

All advice guides, cost guides, and editorial posts are for informational purposes only. Costs vary materially by project, property, and season. We recommend obtaining multiple quotes and independently verifying contractor credentials before hiring.
