Hanover

A steady suburban market with rising values and a lot of new-build and remodel activity.

Hanover has the least coastal drama of its South Shore neighbors, which shows up in permit timelines and construction volume. New construction is active. So are additions and bump-outs on the 1970s-and-later housing stock that dominates the town. A Hanover permit application usually moves faster than a Duxbury one.

That does not mean Hanover is a discount market. Values have climbed, buyers are demanding, and the town's position as the retail hub for the South Shore attracts a steady remodel market for homeowners trading up within the region.

The Third Herring Brook and other waterways bring conservation review to parts of town. It is less pervasive than in Duxbury or Scituate, but worth a look before any site work.
